a totally random event which involved watching the 3rd season of the OC at the cheng's place at 5am hit me with some mega deja vu. in the show, Marissa had just shot and killed Ryan's brother in order to save him, and Ryan later on punched a dean in the face because he felt the dean was manhandling her. Both get kicked out of school and into all sorts of shit, and through it all, they just told each other "everything will be ok as long as we stick together", and it seemed like they really believed it. so what's wrong with this picture? seems pretty sweet right? Marissa and Ryan would do practically anything for each other, and it was a testament to how deep their love went. however, it also represents a very fatalistic attraction which is terribly common in everyday life, where a couple have their lives dependent and intertwined so deeply that their world revolves around one another. this is not an issue when say, a couple is about to get engaged or married, but is dangerous when there is no fixed and definite future to a relationship.
it's funny how things become crystal clear to you after everything is over and gone. i was involved in one such relationship, and when the world i was revolving around disappeared, i'm suddenly left scarred and bitter. really stupid, i must say, because these scars aren't going to go away. life goes on and you're just going to have to carry them with you. so, chillax on your relationships people. as vincent used to tell me all the time, "i don't want to be a wee lock", haha.
